Ana Bautista Pavilion

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Leisure · Subcategory: Sports · Year: 1993 · Authors: Felipe Artengo Rufino, Fernando Martín Menis, José María Rodríguez-Pastrana

This sports facility located on the edge of the Santos ravine bears the name of rhythmic gymnast Ana Bautista Reyes, born in Santa Cruz and who in 1989 achieved the first official gold medal for Spanish rhythmic gymnastics.

The architects Felipe Artengo, Fernando Martín Menis and José María Rodríguez-Pastrana provided an appropriate and formally restrained solution, in which the volumes are competently buried and the roof is resolved with a smooth profile (like a sea wave) very suitable for its urban environment. A rib cage of ten laminated wooden arches rests on five metal pillars supporting the curvilinear structure of galvanized sheet metal. The work, completed in 1993, is constructively very sober.
