Proa Building

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1994 · Authors: Felipe Artengo Rufino, Fernando Martín Menis, José María Rodríguez-Pastrana

Located on a street parallel to the course of the Santos ravine, this building lives up to its name by forming a projecting part of a narrow block overlooking the ravine’s channel.

Concrete is the fundamental construction material, its texture standing out especially on the plinth articulated by facets, on the curved balconies, on the small side eaves and on the roof made like a visor or small shell.

Access to the interior is via a curious entrance and stairs very much in keeping with the exterior appearance of the work.

The Proa building was designed in 1991 by the team of architects Felipe Artengo, Fernando Martín Menis and José María Rodríguez-Pastrana. Completed in 1994, the work is configured as an imaginative constructive artefact with an evident will of plastic expressionism.
