Mercatenerife Service Station (Petrol Station)

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Industrial architecture · Year: 1982 · Authors: Felipe Artengo Rufino, Fernando Martín Menis, José María Rodríguez-Pastrana

This small petrol station that supplies vehicles at the Central Wholesale Market complex, Mercatenerife, was designed in 1981 by architects Felipe Artengo, Fernando Martín Menis and José María Rodrdríguez-Pastrana.

Inaugurated a year later, the station is articulated by four basic elements: a cabin that functions as an office, an original canopy, a metal support that reminds us of the towers of oil extraction wells and, finally, the pumps. These four components are sufficient to result in a work that, without detracting from its primary function, becomes, due to its simplicity and efficiency, an attractive example of industrial architecture.
