Mural on El Pilar Street

This large-format mural painting was located on the side of number 54 El Pilar Street, right in the centre of Santa Cruz, and was created in 2016 by artists Louis Lambert and Iker Muro. The recent construction of a building on that site has permanently hidden the mural.

The wall artwork was part of the project "Dive into Santa Cruz", sponsored by the company Cepsa with the aim of adding colour and beautifying city walls lacking aesthetic content, thus attempting to create a much more pleasant urban landscape for citizens.

The authors, given that the work was situated near García Sanabria Park, emulated a vision of the Canarian landscape, flora, and vegetation in order to cover a long wall left exposed in one of the most central areas of the capital.  

Through a dynamic style, the piece was defined by its content full of flat figures bursting with colour, intermingled with new figurative forms. Prints of plants and impossible textures were arranged in a conglomerate of fantasy.

Louis Lambert is a recognised French artist based in Tenerife since 2010. He has created murals in places as diverse as Moscow, Atlanta, and Dakar, and exhibited his work in Mexico City, Arco Madrid, London, and Sarajevo, developing his work in textiles, sculpture, and painting. He is a reference in the field of urban art, possessing a style that could be defined as contemporary cubism. Meanwhile, Iker Muro, co-author of the piece, has for years coordinated the "Dive into Santa Cruz" project developed by Cepsa, which to date includes more than a dozen murals spread throughout the city.

The mural has been hidden behind the construction of a building on the plot that left visible the wall where the mural artwork was created, now disappeared.
