Murals in El Sobradillo

On two façades of the building housing the Asociación de Vecinos 7 Islas de El Sobradillo, located in the village square itself, two large murals have been created that pay tribute to the farming and agricultural traditions carried out for centuries by the inhabitants of the area.

The artistic interventions were commissioned by the Southwest District section of the city council and created in 2022 by the company Mural Base under the direction of Erik Air.

The mural we see if we wander along the TF-272 road depicts a male figure of a farmer tying a sack containing the potatoes he once planted and have now been harvested. On the opposite side of the building, on the façade facing Robin Street, we are surprised by another figure, this time female, dedicated to the harvesting of cochineal. Both activities represented in the murals are an active part of both the distant and recent history of El Sobradillo.

Both works stand out for their careful realism and refined technique, highlighted by vivid colours. 

These urban artworks constitute a heartfelt recognition of the residents of El Sobradillo and their ancestral agricultural traditions, which should always be present in the collective memory of the place.
