The Portuguese artist José de Guimaraes created this sculpture between 2001 and 2005 for the II Street Sculpture Exhibition.

Guimaraes entered a Military Academy in his country in 1957 to study engineering, being stationed as a soldier in Angola between 1967 and 1974, where he was deeply impressed by the landscape, fauna and above all, African art.

Luta de serpentes, a large-scale sculpture located in Parque La Granja, is made of concrete and glass mosaic tiles. It refers to the quick and precise movement with which the snake attacks. Sometimes considered an evil animal and other times sacred, the truth is that this work conveys enormous strength and energy. Its silhouette presents a great aesthetic attraction, both for the sinuousness of its design and for the characteristic glass mosaic that shines in the sunlight, simulating a magnificent mantle of scales.
