Casa Real García

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1968 · Authors: Javier Díaz-Llanos, Vicente Saavedra

The project for this house located in the Ifara-La Nifa development was drafted in 1964 by architects Javier Díaz-Llanos and Vicente Saavedra for the owner Antonio Real García.

The building takes advantage of the steep slope of the plot on which it stands to stagger the house’s layout over three levels: on the lower level, near the street, are the common areas (office, living room, kitchen and dining room) open to a magnificent garden; in the middle are the bedrooms; and on the upper level are the terrace, swimming pool and a rear garden.

The work is conceived, given the characteristic slope of the land, as a terraced garden, where horizontal concrete platforms with white-coloured parapets contrast with carefully constructed basalt stone slab walls.

An ingenious and aesthetic cantilevered external staircase links the different spaces, always surrounded by lush vegetation.

The house was completed in 1968.
