Casa Ruiz Benítez de Lugo

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1949 · Authors: José Enrique Marrero Regalado

Years after having designed the Martínez de la Torre house, located a little further up on the same Rambla and today part of a healthcare complex, Marrero made a new project in 1949, with similar characteristics, for the family of Luis Benítez de Lugo García Sanjuan.

Framed within regionalism style, this work mixes a rich variety of solutions and typical elements both from the architecture of northern Spain (farmhouses of the Basque Country and Cantabria) and from traditional Canarian architecture.

In reality, we are facing two semi-detached houses with symmetrical floor plans. On the façade we can observe two entrance portals with stone arches, typical wooden balconies, corner-highlighted windows topped by tiled eaves and, finally, turrets at the ends with four-sided tiled roofs.
