The surprise caused by this building in early 20th-century Santa Cruz was great. For the first time, special attention was paid to the appearance of a building intended to house an industrial use.

Merchants Rafael Calzadilla and Lorenzo Filpes commissioned the architect Antonio Pintor in 1910 to design this work intended to house two warehouses for their goods. Pintor gave the two buildings different heights. The residential appearance was achieved through the use of an eclectic language varnished with slight Art Nouveau ornamentation.

The two premises eventually merged into one and for many years housed the headquarters of La Prensa , the newspaper from which El Día emerged. Later, it was occupied by a pharmacy and several bank branches. Today its façade is preserved, with a newly built residential building set back behind it.
