Casa Hardisson

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1901 · Authors: Federico Solé y Escabia

This building was designed at the beginning of 1901 by the technician Federico Solé for the owner and businesswoman Felicia Hardisson. Located on the former Calle del Sol, today Doctor Allart, the two-storey building was conceived as a warehouse on the lower floor and a residence on the upper floor.

The imposing façade, of clear eclectic style, features at street level a rusticated wall with no fewer than five segmental arch doors, with jambs, highlighting the voussoirs. On the second floor, the openings are decorated with a false dripstone with rosettes at the corners. A continuous balcony spans the entire front, ending in height with a full frieze composed of tiles and corbels.

Inside the ground floor, a stuccoed entrance hall divides the spaces intended for the warehouse-business. The staircase provides access to the upper floor where a corridor connects the different rooms of the residential area. The rear part of the house includes a large garden-courtyard.

The property must have had great prestige and quite evident opulence; today it is on the verge of ruin.
