Lázaro House (Siliuto House)

This building located in the heart of the El Toscal neighbourhood is the work of the technician Federico Solé. The promoter Manuel Lázaro Pigran commissioned it in 1900 as a private residence. The typology used corresponds to a two-storey building following the model of a garden villa, very much in line with what was being developed at that time in Santa Cruz in the Los Hoteles neighbourhood.

During the third decade of the twentieth century, the property was acquired by an Italian family named Siliuto, who lived there until the 1940s. From then on, it began to function first as a hotel and later as a lithography workshop (Gráficas Alonso). From 1962 it housed the Niño Jesús de Praga school, a function that lasted until the 1980s. From that date, the building was abandoned, reaching a lamentable state of near ruin.

Currently it is owned by the City Council, and the Corporation has installed there, after a splendid renovation, the "Casa de la Juventud" (Youth Centre), a place where the city's young people can meet and carry out their activities.
