Casa Ledesma
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1919 · Authors: Antonio Pintor y Ocete
This detached house is located in the heart of the Barrio de los Hoteles, on the corner between General Antequera and Pi y Margall streets. It was built at the behest of the industrialist Antonio Ledesma Barbuzano, who commissioned the project in 1908 from the architect Antonio Pintor. However, it was not until 1919 that the building began to be constructed.
Casa Ledesma is one of the best examples of modernist architecture carried out in Santa Cruz. The treatment of the iron parapets stands out and, above all, the corner turret, a piece that serves as a joint for the wings at an angle. It is in this turret where much of the building’s ornamentation is concentrated, executed with restrained expressiveness in the joyful use of the plant repertoire, so fashionable in the modernist movement.
