The aspiration to build an important football stadium had been inspired early on in Tenerife, given the fondness for this sport initially introduced by the British colony settled on the island.

The Club Deportivo Tenerife inaugurated in 1925 its playing field located very close to the Santos ravine under the name "Stadium". It was built with funds raised through subscriptions, although over time it became the property of the Cabildo.

In 1945 the field was insufficient to meet its needs, so the architect Marrero Regalado was commissioned to draft a project for a new stadium. Marrero designed a venue with stands, grandstands and façades with a marked baroque and regionalist appearance.

In the 1990s the entire complex was remodelled, leaving only the old main entrance built in the 1940s standing, located on the chamfer of San Sebastián and Heliodoro Rodríguez streets.
