Machado López House
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1904 · Authors: Mariano Estanga
Modernist style building designed in 1904 by Mariano Estanga. It is located at the corner of La Rosa and Santa Rosalía streets and was conceived as a residence with commercial spaces for the owner Domingo Machado López.
The interesting façade features a corner tower, crescent-shaped mullions over doors and windows with rich stained glass. The ornamental repertoire is limited but very brilliant, with the use of the coup de fouet (whip stroke) that defines Art Nouveau models. One of the most notable aspects of the house is the treatment given to the main entrance gate, where the irregularities of its configuration are combined with the meticulous detail of the tabaiba rosette.
