Casa López Olivera

Perhaps this building is the first work designed by the architect Antonio Pintor upon his arrival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1889. The commission was made by the owner López Olivera with the aim of building his own residence on San Francisco Street, near the square of the same name.

The two-storey building is framed within the romantic classicist style, somewhat distant from the eclecticism that Pintor would adopt shortly afterwards and would not abandon throughout his long professional career. 

In the López Olivera house we can observe the elegance of a very orderly and sparsely ornamented façade. The basalt masonry plays its role in the plinth, in the door and window frames, mouldings and cornices. The symmetrical and aligned openings on the upper part are closed by individual balconies with wrought iron railings. The building is crowned by a balustraded parapet with small walls from which ornamental vases rise.

The whole ensemble gives a sensation of elegant sobriety and simplicity.
