This building is one of the best works by the architect Antonio Pintor in Santa Cruz. In 1926 the building's promoter, Juan Rodríguez López, commissioned the architect to design the building as a private residence. Pintor, already with an extensive professional career, here demonstrates a conceptual wisdom very rare at that time in the island's architectural scene. As a perfect connoisseur of the resources allowed by eclecticism, he was able to blend various solutions, creating a unique language. The tiling, glazed roofs, and spandrels filled with tiles combine with the excellent pillars, columns, and pilasters of the porch. Both the exterior and interior ornamentation present exceptional finishing qualities. Modernism can be seen in delicate pieces such as the cords applied to the edges of the tower.

Casa Maffiotte is the clear final example of an architectural typology that conferred dignity and prestige to a place where the upper bourgeoisie of Santa Cruz settled at a certain time: the Barrio de los Hoteles.
