Casa Penedo

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1902 · Authors: Mariano Estanga

This building located on Imeldo Serís street, opposite the Guimerá theatre, is one of the first commissions undertaken by the architect Mariano Estanga in Santa Cruz. The plans for this house were signed in June 1902, revealing the qualities of this technician: formal elegance, compositional ability, maturity in synthesis and creativity in design.

Casa Penedo was conceived with two floors and a pavilion with a flat roof associated with the rooftop. Its façade highlights the proportionality of the forms and the use of such classical solutions as bands of glazed ceramic material, incised vegetal decoration on the shafts of the pilasters of the main body, and ornamental details in the various vertical lines.
