Red Cross Building
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1914 · Authors: Mariano Estanga
This building was designed by architect Mariano Estanga in 1913 for the Provincial Commission of Ladies of the Red Cross of Tenerife as a social venue and first aid house. Construction work began on 8 January 1914.
The building, of clear eclectic style, presents a symmetrical façade. On the ground floor there is a large central opening serving as the entrance and on both sides there are two long vertical windows. An impressive cornice separates the upper floor, where the arrangement of the openings is repeated. The colour of the building and the Red Cross emblems scattered along the top of the segmental arches of the upper windows give it a particular appearance. Inside, a small courtyard, now covered, distributes the spaces.
