Mural on Imeldo Serís Street

The Tenerife-born Ignacio Basualto, known as Txemy, was responsible for filling with colour a huge wall-façade of a building in a state of near ruin, located in the lower part of Imeldo Serís street. The artistic intervention was carried out in June 2014, included within the project "Immerse Yourself in Santa Cruz", an initiative sponsored by the company Cepsa in an effort to contribute to beautifying the capital of Tenerife through urban art.

Txemy depicted, for this vertically oriented space, two human figures rising. The ensemble is in line with a colourful style, with firm and very dynamic strokes that achieve their maximum expression through a palette loaded with tones and nuances. It was not based on any prior sketch, so the mural evolved as it was created, in an improvisational manner.

In his own words Txemy defined this work as  "a message of hope where there can be different interpretations: some see it in a religious way as figures ascending to heaven; others, as a good moment where there is a light at the end of the path" . The ascending figures fit suitably with the verticality of the wall.
