Mural on San Antonio Street

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Art · Subcategory: Urban art · Year: 2017 · Authors: Lauro Samblás

We find another piece of urban art created in the populous El Toscal neighbourhood. Located on San Antonio Street, in its segment closest to La Rosa Street, this mural is part of the "Dive into Santa Cruz" project, sponsored by the company Cepsa and aimed at providing artistic content to the streets of the Tenerife capital that have neglected party walls or lack aesthetic appeal.

Designed and created in 2017 by Tenerife artist Lauro Samblás, the mural fills this urban area surrounded by buildings almost threatening ruin with colour. The work is an abstract synthesis of the Canarian landscape, where blue represents the sea, yellow the sunlight, and magenta the earth, vivid primary colours characteristic of Samblás’s work. The illustrations have a three-dimensional character marked by saturated, bright colours and a geometric load of dynamic shapes.

Lauro Samblás’s work reflects on the digital world, where advertising and art join hands to create new languages of communication. After more than a decade living in Barcelona dedicated to visual design and interior design, this artist returned to his native island and created this expressive and colourful work.
