Alday Building

In 1951 the architect Domingo Pisaca drafted the project for this building intended for housing, offices and commercial premises, for the developers José Luis and Miguel Alday Castrillo. 

For the plot left after the demolition of an old traditional manor house that occupied the section between San José and Villalba Hervás streets, at the height of José Murphy, Pisaca devised a construction with a clear rationalist tendency. 

The building, with seven floors, has a curved configuration at the corners. The red brick stands out on its façade, contrasting with the horizontal white bands that mark both the structural lines and the slabs, lintels and openings. The projections and setbacks alternate dynamically and harmoniously.   

Inside, a corridor connects the vertical communication core with four dwellings per floor, featuring an interior courtyard for lighting and ventilation. 

The building was completed in May 1953.
