García Castrillo House
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1923 · Authors: Domingo Pisaca Burgada
This house was designed by the architect Domingo Pisaca in 1923 for Antonio García Castrillo as a chalet to be located on a plot in the new expansion area of Santa Cruz at that time.
It is a building framed within the canons of eclecticism, conceived as an urban villa, just as Pisaca was developing at that time for the city's affluent classes.
The most outstanding feature of the ensemble in its exterior appearance is the central prismatic tower crowned by a pavilion with a four-sided tiled roof. Also noteworthy is the glazing of the openings, where a sophisticated geometric model is developed that combines with the balustrades closing terraces and rooftops.
The building, which went from private residence to girls' school and student residence, had a wonderful front garden now disappeared. Currently, this property, together with the adjacent one on the corner with San Sebastián street, is part of a centre for the care of elderly people.
