Funerary Monument to García Sanabria

In 1935 the architect Marrero Regalado was commissioned to create two monuments in memory of Mayor García Sanabria: one funerary, to be placed at the entrance to the Santa Lastenia cemetery; another commemorative, to be installed at the central point of the municipal park that bears his name and of which he was its greatest promoter.

The funerary monument at Santa Lastenia is accessed by means of wide stairs of five flights that connect with the spectacular ensemble made of basaltic stone. It features a front body, where a cross appears, and a taller rear body, accessed by two side staircases.

The monument, which is surrounded by a gardened enclosure, presents itself with a sombre and forceful aspect, with clear expressionist references.
