The architect José Enrique Marrero Regalado designed in 1933 his own house and studio in the square that today bears his name, in what at that time were the outskirts of the city at the end of San Francisco and La Marina streets.

At the time this building was erected, the operation to close the façade facing the sea in this part of the city had not started nor was it planned, so this location (without the buildings now in front) was a magnificent viewpoint over the bay of the port and the Anaga mountains.

The building was a challenge for its author, as it meant a declaration of intentions and a public statement of his aesthetic ideology of rationalist design of that moment. Long and deep terraces run along the façade, with a configuration of ground and main floors for the residence and the studio on the top floor, also adding a small attic with terrace. The house and studio were decorated inside by the architect himself through an exquisite repertoire of objects and utensils of magnificent decorative craftsmanship.
