La Casa Cuna (Hogar Infantil de la Sagrada Familia)

The project for a maternity centre and Casa Cuna was initiated in 1934, commissioned by the Cabildo Insular, under the plans of the architect Marrero Regalado, as part of a public health remodelling programme on the island. Although it began operating from 1936, it was not until 1949 that the entire complex came into service, which includes a maternity pavilion, a children's shelter with school and workshops for vocational training, and a church.

It is a harmonious complex whose organising axis is carried out through an entrance avenue. This axis leads to the church façade, dominated by a large cross and accompanied by a Mudéjar tower with decorative lattice panels, topped by Baroque elements and a spire turret with a wrought iron rosette.

Popularly known as "Casa Cuna", the structure of the entire building reveals a rational layout with spacious courtyards and façades of mixed languages, relating regionalist and Baroque styles based on a modern compositional scheme.
