Casa Ojeda Zamorano

This rationalist typology house was designed by the architect Marrero Regalado in 1934 in collaboration, in its first sketches, with Rudolf Schneider, a German technician and Marrero's assistant at that time.

It was a single-family home commissioned by the Ojeda Zamorano family and located at the top of Camino Oliver, a path that at that time ran through a clearly rural environment, at the foot of the mountain that closes the city to the west.   

The building was developed over three spacious floors and was characterised by an exterior appearance dominated by straight lines, without any ornamentation, with great interest in the development of terraces and balconies, taking advantage of the excellent views over the city at that time. Inside, an expansive and functional floor plan dominated the entire space. The house was designed under obvious influences from the work of architect Mies van der Rohe.

After years of abandonment, the building was demolished in 2025 without, inexplicably, having any heritage protection status. A real shame that one of the best examples of rationalist architecture in Santa Cruz has disappeared.
