Gil Pérez Building

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1937 · Authors: José Enrique Marrero Regalado

Project drawn up in 1937 by the architect Marrero Regalado for the Gil Pérez sisters, owners of a splendid plot on Costa y Grijalba street.

Marrero proposed, under rationalist premises, a very balanced construction in which the play of volumes on the façade creates a rhythmic effect between the window openings, terraces and balconies.

The façade features a central axis marked by two vertical mouldings linked by two horizontal bands with decorative elements of great aesthetic quality. On the sides there are wide balconies with masonry parapets and small metal railings. We also highlight the interesting wooden entrance door, with its careful design.

Inside the building there are two ventilation and lighting courtyards and another open rear space. Access to a pair of symmetrical dwellings per floor is via a main staircase and a service staircase.

This is another of Marrero Regalado's magnificent rationalist buildings.
