Casa Foronda

The building is located right in the Hotel District, at the corner of General Antequera and Viera y Clavijo streets. It was designed by Antonio Pintor in 1910 as a residence for the owner and merchant Gonzalo Foronda.

It is a two-storey chalet with modest modernist features surrounded by a gardened enclosure. On its exterior, we can observe abundant decoration where pinnacles, moldings, cornices, and flutings stand out, all arranged in such a way as to accentuate the rhythm of the façade. Notable is the wrought-iron balcony on corbels on the upper floor, which somewhat enhances the whole ensemble. The building is topped by a cornice with decorative dentils and a parapet with pilasters. The garden is enclosed by a wall over which rises a wrought-iron fence with a light modernist appearance. 

Inside, the floors are arranged into three front rooms and an equal number of rear rooms with a corridor in between. The staircase constitutes the central axis of the entire construction.

This is a typical building of that area (Hotel District) and that period (1900-1915), where ornamentation, opulent forms of elegance, the garden, the railings, and other elements represent the home of the bourgeoisie of that time in the city.
