Following his Monument to the Cat , this work would have been the second by the Canarian artist Óscar Domínguez (La Laguna, Tenerife, 1906-Paris, France, 1957) to participate in the I International Exhibition of Sculpture in the Street in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1973, but it was never exhibited.

The Pirate , a large iron drawing integrated with canvas and ropes, was made by Domínguez in the mid-20th century. It is a triangulated figure heavily influenced by Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico, configured between playful assembly and the surreal distorting imagination of the Tenerife artist. 

The work was loaned by the Noailles family for the Exhibition. Initially, it was proposed to install it at the Colegio de Arquitectos de Canarias headquarters, but it was never displayed.
