Street Sculpture Route I: 08. Level

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Route · Subcategory: Street sculpture I · Year: 1972 · Authors: Joaquín Rubio Camín

A short distance from Henry Moore's Warrior of Goslar , on the same stretch of the Rambla, is this sculpture made in 1972 by the Asturian sculptor Joaquín Rubio Camín (1929-2007) for the I International Street Sculpture Exhibition.

Rubio Camín is characterised in his work as a sculptor with a language of great formal purity, intellectualised, sober; but also within the progressive formal context, liberating given structures. For this sculpture titled Level , he created, in folded steel with copper-metalised profiles, a progression of the straight line with an angular stop, constitutive elements of the foundations of his work. An open and unlimited sculpture, with its folds of animation or vitality. A dihedral as the backbone of the form.
