Ministry of Health (Former Hygiene Institute)
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1931 · Authors: Antonio Pintor y Ocete
This building located on the Rambla corner with Horacio Nelson street was designed by Antonio Pintor in 1930, commissioned by the Cabildo Insular as a Hygiene Institute. It was built with two floors and a semi-basement, although later, in 1965, an additional floor was added. The front is articulated by means of a central body, two lateral ones with similar characteristics, and two identical intermediate ones. The canon of windows arranged on the main floor stands out, which features very restrained ornamentation. The ample capacity of the site has allowed in successive years the construction of new pavilions annexed to the main building for specific uses. Currently, the building houses the headquarters of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
